Life has been hectic the last couple of days. I have felt the stress growing inside of my tummy till it reaches my head. I’m trying to remember to breath in and out, and stay calm if I feel like I can’t. That this time will pass and I’ll figure things out.
I did wrote this little points down few days ago for myself, because I happen to forget often some of the easiest ideas on how to be more and do more. How I can stay fully productive, motivated and happy turning the time when I’m struggling to figure things out. So after I finished, I thought to copy it also here, maybe someone else will find it helpful.
Stalk your muses
Remember the people who inspire you personally. Write them down, create a folder to your desktop or have it close by. If you feel down or not inspired, have a look, so you can see all those productive people who work hard too. Have them close by, to get inspired whenever you feel like you need it.
I, for example, have a folder with articles and photographs of people who I would like to become one day, in my desktop, so I can just go quickly over them and remember to myself why I’m doing what I’m doing.
Don’t try to please anyone
If it comes to business or some other plans what includes other people, understand your main target and stick with it. You will always get some unpleasant feedback, but keep yourself in focus on what you wanna receive. People who will dislike what you are doing, always stay around.
Physical list of things what needs to be done
Don’t underestimate to-do lists. Write down all the things what needs to be done, so you can get them out of your head. Once when they are written down, prioritise them and/or create a system. Because of that, you can just open your list up and start doing things straight away, without thinking what needs to be done.
I, for example once again, have a 4 different lists what needs to be done in my computer, what is synchronised with my iPhone (work, school, personal life, shopping list, project I’m working with). So I have all my thoughts out of my head, I don’t have to waste time just by remembering them. They are there and ready to be done!
The most useful trick I’ve learned. When you work on your own, being a freelancer or owning your own business, you can feel that nobody controls your time, so you can do things whenever.
When you have many tasks to do turning the day and, pick one at the time, hit a timer (I’m simply using my iPhone) and start doing. You have one hour to accomplish or get things as much done, as you can. It is a great way to do and achieve more. It also creates a little competition with yourself, trying to get things done as much as possible!
Honouring your working style
Understand how do you work the best. Notice: do you like to work when surrounded by others or alone. Also are you the most productive in mornings or nights. Understand your working methods and accept them and try to act what supports your productivity the most.
I, for example, can’t work at home. I like to wake up early, get ready and go out to my studio, as this is where I’ve created my working surroundings. I need to have others around, but not disturbingly. I need quiet and calm working surroundings to be the most productive.
Understand who you wanna become and in what direction you are moving. Knowing that, it will be easier for you to take little actions daily to be every day little bit more the person you wanna become. Create moodboards, stick photos above your desk. Keep the goal and inspiration close to yourself. Be one, you have to become one.
Live in a dream
Feel it, take time to daydream and imagine something you want in your head over and over again. You never can’t dream too big or too much. In your daily life, act already as if.
I think this is one of the most crucial advices I can get you. Working a lot is good and gives you back a lot of things, when you love it, but you have to find something else to yourself what balances your work. Do something what feeds your soul. It might feel sometimes like a “waste of time” when you have lot to do, but it really keeps you going. Take 30-60mins at least few times per week to do, what you JUST enjoy. Play video games, watch a episode, go to yoga, swim…
I, for example, use to swim every night 8:30-10:00pm, when I was living in Iceland. Now, I go for a run. And man, sometimes I really do not feel like it, especially if I feel a little low, but for me, exercising is the best way to release my stress levels. I can physically feel how my happy hormones will start popping out and I can feel like myself again, if I’ve been too lost into work before.
